MEDICAL EXEMPTIONS TO HANDICAPS
This outlines the WSMGA's procedures to evaluate requests from Members for a medical adjustment to their handicap or for requests from disabled golfers to alter local rules for their particular condition.
- Any requests for the above must be received in writing from the member.
- The Tournament Committee and The Board of Directors will review all such requests.
- The Board will determine if the exception requested is warranted. If granted, the Board and TC will also determine the period of time for which the exception is granted and establish specific periods of time (for example, every three months) that the exception must be reviewed.
- Only after this procedure has been followed will an exception that is contrary to the rules of golf be granted.
- Per USGS guidelines, a total for 5 scores using the adjusted local rule granted will be required to calculate a temporary handicap adjustment for use in tournament play. This will also apply for a request for a temporary medical handicap adjustment for a player coming back from a significant injury or illness.
