SMGA 2-Man 24-Ball Tournament Results

2-man 24-ball winners

Champions:  Ray Krawiec and Jim Banta

On Monday, December 16th, under cold, gray skies and on a soggy golf course, the final tournament of the 2024 calendar year - but first tournament of the 2025 POY season - was played by 26 2-man teams.  Jim Banta set the tone early on the first hole with a chip-in birdie on #12 (net Eagle), Ray Krawiec followed that with a par (net birdie), and the twosome never looked back from that early 3-stroke lead, finishing 11 under on the day.  Mark Humphlett and David Nieman finished 3 strokes back in second place.

Runners Up:  Mark Humphlett and David Nieman

Jeff Sanborn had CTTP on #6, Jerry Matthews had CTTP on both #11 and #13.

Congratulations to the top ten finishers who have an early 2025 pro shop credit and a place atop the early POY standings for 2025:

SMGA 2025 MATCH PLAY RESULTS

Garry Gallagher - SMGA 2025 Match Play Champ

32 players began the 2025 Match Play challenge back in April, and after two rounds of elimination play, two players emerged to play the championship match for the top spot.   Garry Gallagher and Stephen Scott battled it out on Friday, August 15 to see who would be victorious.  The match was a close one and came down to the last few holes where Garry Gallagher emerged as the victor after Hole 17 as he won two up with one to play.

Congratulations to Garry Gallagher for winning the Match Play Championship match and to Stephen Scott for making it to the final match.  Garry will receive $200 for first place and Stephen will get $150 for second place overall.

2025 SMGA RYDER CUP

The 2025 Ryder Cup began play under ominous conditions, but the weather broke early and the Red Team followed suit by breaking out to an early lead across many team matches and ended Day 1 competition leading by the score of 53-31.

Day 2 of play was played under near perfect conditions and saw the Blue Team fight back… at several times making it look like it was going to be a close battle.  Although the Blue Team won Day 2 by a slight margin, 57 ½ - 54 ½, it wasn’t enough to overcome the solid lead built by the Red Team led by Captain Kory Krucher and Co-Captain Greg Cooke.

Final score: Red Team 107 ½ , Blue Team 88 ½ .

We had 56 players in the event this year, a solid turnout, but each team had only 1 undefeated member.  Norman Couture went 10-0 for the Red Team and John Lindemann went 10-0 for the Blue Team.  Outstanding play Gentlemen!

A great time was had by all participants, not only on the course, but following Day 2 play all competitors, and some non-playing SMGA members, came together in Marana’s to celebrate the event with Pizza’s and beers and hold a brief informal SMGA Board meeting.  Each Board Member gave a brief update related to their position.  Quick summary: the SMGA is in excellent shape and continues to thrive due to its great members!  Thank you to all SMGA Members!

2025 SMGA/LGA CROWN CUP

The 2025 Crown Cup was played under perfect conditions and this year’s tournament did not disappoint.  The competition was tight with a total of 44 players competing in the team scramble, and in the end just 4 strokes separated the top 8 teams!

Congratulations to the team of Craig Stearns, Gary Kaneshiro, Clare Clark, and Linda Olsten who took top honors with a score of 22 Under.

The top 4 teams were:

Craig Stearns, Gary Kaneshiro, Clare Clark, and Linda Olsten                  -22

Woody Woods, Norman Couture, Ellen Vanderlinden, Carol Sullivan         -21

Jim Banta, Jim Brownlowe, Colleen Reimer, Charlotte O’Connor             -19

Mark Clarke-Hall, Wally Buchleitner, Debi McDermont, Cynthia Couture   -19

Closest to the Pin honors went to:

Men’s Hole #2 – Kevin Ahrens

Men’s Hole #13 – Mark Clarke-Hall

Ladies Hole #2 – Kerry Brownlowe

Ladies Hole #15 – Stella Kiddoo

Thank you to all the participants and volunteers who made this such a great day!
