A Final Post about the SMGA 2025 Season

The final week of the 2025 SMGA Season provided lots of excitement and good times.  First, SMGA and MGA member Jerry Matthews won the coveted MGA Woodmont Cup with a hard fought 2&1 victory!
Congratulations Jerry!  Well done!
 
Two days later we held the 2025 SMGA Invitational.  Each year the SMGA Invitational is held to recognize the members who throughout the year participated the most and performed the best in our SMGA tournaments. 
                 

This year we had a playing field comprised of 32 of the top golfers in Player-of-the-Year points led by 2025 SMGA Player of the Year Jeff Moore, and in the Most Improved Player category (as measured by GHIN calculations). The group competed in a Dogfight / Stableford points game, in which each golfer plays against their own points quota target.

Congratulations to the Overall Winners of the 2025 SMGA Stroke Play Championship

Jeff Ross and Bill Wall !

51 players competed in the SMGA Stroke Play Championship held over two awesome days.  The competition was tight across 7 flights, and after 36 holes the overall winners were Jeff Ross for the Overall Gross, and Bill Wall for the Overall Net.  Congratulations Gentlemen!

Mother Nature provided two picture perfect days, and the Woodmont staff and grounds crews made sure to provide us with a course in great condition.  Following play, the entire field was welcomed into Marana’s for pizza and refreshments while all the flight winners and champions were announced.

2025 SMGA 1-DAY MEMBER/MEMBER

Congratulations to this years SMGA 1-Day Member / Member Overall Winners

This year 66 players competed in the SMGA Member / Member event on a picture perfect day.  After a 3-hole cumulative score playoff among the 1^st place finishers from each flight, the team of Bill Greenwald and John Lindemann won by 1 stroke!

The competition was tight in every flight, with no more than 3 strokes separating the top 3 teams in each flight.  The final results were:

SMGA 2025 MATCH PLAY RESULTS

32 players began the 2025 Match Play challenge back in April, and after two rounds of elimination play, two players emerged to play the championship match for the top spot.   Garry Gallagher and Stephen Scott battled it out on Friday, August 15 to see who would be victorious.  The match was a close one and came down to the last few holes where Garry Gallagher emerged as the victor after Hole 17 as he won two up with one to play.

Congratulations to Garry Gallagher for winning the Match Play Championship match and to Stephen Scott for making it to the final match.  Garry will receive $200 for first place and Stephen will get $150 for second place overall.
